St James' Church in Bushy Park is seeking permission to build a colambarium wall for cremated remains.
24% of people in Ireland are now choosing cremation over burial
If planning permission is granted, the columbarium in Bushy Park will be built on an elevated site overlooking Lough Corrib
The church is working with Irish company Eternum Columbarium, which has recently completed such a project in the Cathedral of Saints Peter & Paul in Ennis

"Burnout" likely played a big role in Leo Varadkar's decision to step down as Taoiseach and leader of Fine Gael.
That's according to Government Chief Whip and Galway West TD and Junior Minister Hildegarde Naughton.
Speaking to Galway Talks, she said while the announcement was a shock, it is understandable on a personal level.
Minister Naughton says he's given everything to the party and to the country.

Current Cathaoirleach of County Galway, Councillor Liam Carroll, is to leave Fine Gael after being snubbed in the upcoming local elections.
Despite expressing a wish to again stand for Fine Gael in the Athenry/Oranmore district in June, the party has allegedly refused to add him to the ticket.
It's extremely unusual given his position as Mayor of the county - but Councillor Carroll says it's not clear why.
But Councillor Carroll says he'll be running as an independent, and he will not be renewing his Fine Gael membership next month.
Speaking to Galway Talks, Councillor Carroll said it was a big decision to run as an independent - but he wants to continue serving his community.

Many rural towns and villages across Galway are being "left behind" when it comes to active travel projects.
That was the claim made at County Hall this week, as the finger was pointed firmly at the National Transport Authority.
Councillor Shelly Herterich Quinn voiced extreme annoyance that several important projects in Athenry are effectively stuck at design stage for the past four years.
Councillor Albert Dolan also noted that funding is being given to these projects every year - but ends up not being used, depriving many other towns and villages.
Councillor Herterich-Quinn is frustrated that Athenry is falling behind.

Galway East TD Sean Canney is calling for the Safe Routes to School Programme to be accelerated.
The Independent TD believes the funds should be distributed by local authorities as they have expert knowledge of the roads in their own area.
This comes as 65 Galway schools registered for the scheme two years ago, but only 12 have been confirmed to recieve funding.
Deputy Canney says that children going to school are 'taking their lives into their own hands' without safety infastructure.
