Tuam Community Council has identified three suitable sites for a community centre in the town.
The group has received letters of support from around 20 local sports and community groups in their fight for a community centre.
A delegation gave a presentation to this week's meeting of Tuam councillors, during which they highlighted two private sites and one county council owned site.
Director of Services Derek Pender says the executive will work closely with the council to advance the project, and says there are multiple financial streams available to them.

University of Galway Students' Union is looking to hold a referendum to amend two parts of its constitution.
It wants to update the name of the Union in line with the University's branding changes, by replacing any references of NUI Galway with the University of Galway
If 500 studens sign in support of its motion, it will hold the referendum during the next Students' Union elections.
It is also seeking to remove gender specific pronouns from its constitution.

A one million euro overspend on the city's Martin Junction has been confirmed
The project, which changed the roundabout into a signalised junction took almost a year longer than originally planned.
The original cost was put at 5 million but ended up at 6 million
City East councillor Alan Cheevers secured the information yesterday when Transport Minister Jack Chambers officially opened the junction
