Galway Dog Rescue group MADRA is reporting an overwhelming number of unwanted collies.
It's citing unplanned pregnancies in working dogs like farm collies and sheepdogs as a growing issue.
MADRA is calling on farmers to reconsider breeding practices and to be part of the solution to this problem.

The Mayor of Galway says he cannot understand the mindset of those responsible for mindless and destructive vandalism in Knocknacarra.
The vandalism was carried out on Saturday evening around the Gateway Retail Park and Millars Lane.
Among the damage was a bus shelter smashed, new trees broken in half, and public lighting damaged.
Councillor John Connolly says the damage done will be very costly to fix.

There's a demand for the release of how much of an 'overspend' there was on the Martin Junction near Galway Clinic.
The project to transform the roundabout into a signalised junction took almost a year longer to complete than first planned.
It comes as Junior Transport Minister Jack Chambers is set to officially cut the ribbon on the junction this afternoon - 8 odd months after it was opened.
The official budget was €5m - but Councillor Alan Cheevers told Galway Talks he's convinced it had to cost more than that.

The Department of Education is working with secondary school principals in Athenry to address a shortage of up to 80 first year places this September.
Officials confirmed in a letter to Galway East TD Ciaran Cannon that the department were analysing enrollment data submitted by the three schools.
This data also included request for enrollment into other years from families who had moved into the area.
It comes as the Department work on other planned projects such as a new 450 pupil building for Coláiste an Eachraidh and increasing Clarin College's pupil capacity from 1,000 to 1,500.
Deputy Cannon says he'll be ensuring the Department follow through on solving the problem;

Independent TD Sean Canney has welcomed the fact that the civils work is now complete on the Kilrickle/Kilcooley Group Water Supply Scheme.
Letters have been issued to residents that the scheme is complete and inviting residents to avail of a connection.
Speaking this morning, the Galway East TD said that this announcement is a major milestone for both communities.

Galway City Councillor Labour's Niall Mc Nelis has called on the government to urgently address the housing crisis in light of the alarming findings of the recent Daft Report.
The report revealed a staggering 6.8% increase in advertised rents in 2023, further exacerbating the challenges faced by thousands of families across Galway.
Figures released this week showed that 13,351 individuals, including over 4,000 children, were currently accessing emergency accommodation.
Speaking this morning to Galway Bay FM News, Councillor McNelis said that from knocking on doors in his local area of Knocknacarra, he has met families who are struggling to afford homes of their own.
