Galway West Fianna Fáil TD Éamon Ó Cuiv is leading the local tributes to former Galway politician Tom Hussey who passed away over the weekend.
Tom, from Patch in Glenamaddy, served Galway for many decades as a former TD, Minister, Senator and County Councillor.
Tanaiste Micheál Martin says he's deeply saddened to learn about the death of his colleague and friend.
Deputy Ó Cuiv joined Councillors Mary Hoade and Michael Connolly on Galway Talks to share his memories of the late politician.
He recalled their first meeting and has described him as someone who could take a strong stance when needed:
Tanaiste Micheál Martin described Tom as someone who cared deeply about his community, county and country, adding his was a life of long and honourable public service.
Tom Hussey's service spanned from 1963 to 1999 including as Minister of State in the Department of Agriculture between 1977 and 1980 and subsequently in the Department of Health until 1981.
Tom is survived by his wife Bridie, his children James, Thomas, Paul, Sinéad, Tríona and Ciarán, his grandchildren and a wide circle of family and friends

In the aftermath of Storm Isha, there's a plea for the Galway public not to try and clear fallen trees off the roads by themselves.
Galway County Council says the storm may have only lasted a few hours, but it left a trail of destruction across the county.
At the moment, thousands of homes are still without power, with service expected to be restored to most by this evening.
Yellow wind alerts remain in place for Galway Clare, Donegal, Leitrim, Mayo and Sligo until 7 this evening.
Derek Pender of Galway County Council says trees and power lines are down right across the county.

A survey published today has shown that the worst shortage of homes probably ever seen in Ireland has caused price inflation in almost all markets despite a barrage of conditions that would ordinarily cause home values to fall.
The data is contained within this year's How Much Is Your House Worth? 2024, A survey of 64 local Irish property markets, which also sets out to value every home in Ireland and was published this morning in the Irish Independent.
Outside Galway city (where three-beds now cost €387,000), a movement of city-born buyers is being felt in cheaper towns such as Tuam, Athenry and Headford, and this has caused county-area prices to rocket by 10pc in 12 months.
Irish Independent Property Editor Mark Keenan says average prices in Galway City are 387,000 euro, up 5 percent on last year, while there was a 10 percent rise to 270,000:

It has been just over two months since Storm Debi caused extensive damage to homes and businesses in Clarinbridge
Emergency funding was announced by Government for those impacted, but it has been a slow process for businesses in obtaining that funding and getting back on their feet.

Dexcom has officially broken ground on its new state of the art facility in Athenry.
The US multinational is headquartered in California, and this is its first European plant, creating over a 1,000 permanent jobs here.
Dexcom manufactures high-tech diabetes equipment, and operates manufacturing plants in Arizona and Malaysia.
Dexcom and Connacht Rugby have also announced a 12-year naming-rights partnership, with The Sportsground to now be known as 'Dexcom Stadium'.
Minister for Enterprise Simon Coveney says the scale of this project is hard to grasp
