28 pharmacies across Galway are carrying out free blood pressure checks throughout the day.
It's part of the Irish Pharmacy Union's partnership with RTÉ's Operation Transformation to mark National Blood Pressure Day,
University Late Night Pharmacy on Newcastle Road in the city is one of the participating pharmacies.
Anna, the pharmacist in charge of the checks today, outlines the importance of regularly checking blood pressure:

There has been a 35 percent reduction in the number of patients waiting over 12 months for an outpatient appointment at UHG and Merlin Park
Figures for 2023, highlighted by Galway East TD and Disability Minister Anne Rabbitte show that progress is being made in tackling long waiting lists
They also show that overall outpatient waiting lists fell by 9% in 2023 and there was a 45% reduction in patients waiting for a GI Scope.
National targets were also exceeded, with an 11 percent reduction in the number of patients waiting longer than the agreed Sláintecare times.
Speaking to Keith Finnegan, Deputy Rabbitte says the momentum needs to continue into 2024

A Galway Fashion Designer is set to take part in Ireland's biggest fashion show in March.
Róisín Dockry from Barna will display her latest collection to a 900-strong audience at the ARC Fashion Show in Dublin's RDS
Róisín initially studied to be a midwife at the University of Galway, before making the switch to a fashion design course in Dublin.
Roisín specialises in handmade slow fashions, and says she's excited to represent the county:

To get anything done in Connemara these days, you'd almost have to go to the Vatican to seek permission from the pope himself.
That was the claim made by Councillor Tomás O Curraoin at a meeting at County Hall, where upgrades to the N59 were discussed.
He was taking aim at the amount of 'red tape' projects have to go through, and the disporportionate power wielded by environmental activists.
Specifically being discussed was the upgrade of the road between Bunnakill and Oughterard, which was given permission over a decade ago.
But there's been little progress made since and the project is again stalled amid legal issues.
Councillor Tom Welby has been speaking to David Nevin.
