The school places deficit in one County Galway area has been raised in the Dáil 
Increases in population have led to some of the worst waiting lists in years in both Galway city and county
This causing stress for families and in some cases children are being home-schooled as no place became available
Pressure is being put on the Minister for Education to urgently address the shortage of school places 
Galway East  Fine Gael TD Ciaran Cannon referred to Athenry in particular when he raised the matter in the Dáil this week
He says the number of post-primary school places in Athenry needs a complete reassessment.
Deputy Cannon has called on Norma Foley to immediately engage with school principals
He has told the Dáil that secondary schools in Athenry cannot keep up with capacity demands without more support:

Galway Energy Co-operative will unveil its Energy Master Plan in the city later today (Thurs Nov 30th)
The plan aims to reduce fossil fuel energy in the city by 30 per cent by targetting households, as well as businesses, schools and sports facilties.
The presentation will explore retrofit measures and grants, along with other energy-saving tips and alternatives.
The free event will take place at Westside Resource Centre (30/11) at 7 this evening.
Keiran Cunnane of Galway Energy Co-op says the plan will be delivered with a focus on energy use in the home.

Kinvara woman Hilda O'Grady has been presented with a national Climate Ambassador Award
Hilda was chosen from a group of 179 citizens from around the country for "going above and beyond."
She's a dedicated Climate Ambassador actively promoting sustainable practices in her community, from her involvement in local farmers markets to leading recycling initiatives.
Hilda cited the team behind her as an integral part of her work.
