The Justice Minister has praised the "phenomenal" work carried out by COPE Galway.
Minister Helen McEntee is on a two-day visit to Galway, to meet with organisations and local politicians to discuss issues of concern across the county.
One stop was city-based COPE Galway, which offers homeless, domestic abuse and older people services.
Speaking to Galway Talks, Minister McEntee said domestic violence is an epidemic - and organisations like COPE Galway are vital.

After almost a year of construction works on the new Moycullen Bypass, it will be walkers and joggers who get to test it out first.
A 5K Fun Run is being held on the new road on Sunday November 12th - just weeks before its expected to open.
Scoil Bhaile Nua Parents' Association is organising the fundraising event, with road contractors Wills Brothers helping to facilitate.
Registration is available online and at the school the day before - November 11th.
Fun Run Committee member Loretta Ní Ghabháin explains what people can expect on the day.

This year's Galway TULCA Visual Arts Festival has partnered with Arts and Disability Ireland to enhance event accessibility
It's a core focus of the festival which will run in venues across Galway from tomorrow (nov 3) until Sunday fortnight the 19th of November.
Artworks will also focus on how disability, health and medicine shape communities.

There's been a step forward in long-running plans to have lighting installed at Kilmeen Cross near Loughrea.
It's the point where the N65 turns off towards Portumna, coming out of Loughrea town.
Some safety works have been carried out at the junction in recent years.
But for local activists, who have championed the works for years, public lighting and significant realignment is the only solution.
Galway County Council is to submit a business case to Transport Infrastructure Ireland in the coming weeks.
Councillor Moegie Maher says it's a very important project and these works were needed years ago.

City Councillor Niall McNelis has called for the installment of defibrillators across all community pitches in Galway.
This comes following a new report showing that almost one-third of heart attack victims who received defibrillation from members of the public last year survived.
Cllr McNelis has also advocated for a database to show where these defibrillators can be found
