Large crowds have gathered in Eyre Square this afternoon to mark International Day for the Eradication of Poverty
Trócaire volunteers from Galway, Dublin, Sligo and Limerick led a walk from Eyre Square down to Spanish Arch in wet and windy conditions.
These people taking part explained why today is so important.

A long-awaited answer on whether Clarinbridge and Craughwell will get wastewater treatment plants could be answered in the coming weeks.
Both villages applied for a new Government fund last year, which seeks to create public wastewater facilities in areas of serious need.
Local politicians have repeatedly argued that development in many towns and villages across Galway is "frozen" or "strangled" because of lack of wastewater plants.
Responding to Deputy Sean Canney in the Dáil, Leo Varadkar said a decision on Craughwell and Clarinbridge could happen very soon.

Minister for Further and Higher Education Simon Harris has opened a new library on the ATU Mountbellew campus
The 'Aleen Cust' library is named after Ireland's and the UK's first female vet, who professed her unwaivering desire to become a vet from a very young age.
She was refused recognition in the profession for most of her life because of her gender, until 1922, after a two-decade struggle, she was officially recognised as a veterinary surgeon.
During his visit Minister Harris was also told of the potential of the Mountbellew campus for a School of Veterinary, with a decision due by the end of the year.

Tánaiste Micheál Martin says he's very impressed by the new health facilities in Tuam, which he has officially opened
He also praised the very generous donation for the Community Nursing Unit provided by Joe and Helen O'Toole
The facility forms part of the Tuam Health Campus, located at the Old Grove Hospital site.
The overall campus represents an investment of around €50m and also hosts a primary care centre, an ambulance base, and mental health day hospital.
The Tanaiste spoke to Sarah Slevin just after the opening
