As Galway continues to deal with a status yellow rain warning, a wind alert for the West of the county comes into effect shortly.
Strong and gusty winds are expected from 5pm, with the status yellow wind warning in place until 5 tomorrow morning. 
Galway, along with much of the North and South West of the country, is also under a rain warning until 6 tomorrow morning
Met Eireann says there's the potential for localised flooding as well as difficult driving conditions.
Forecaster Liz Walsh says there could be damaging winds overnight:

Agriculture Minister Charlie McConalogue needs to stop "dragging his heels" on the establishment of a new veterinary school in Mountbellew. 
That's according to MEP Maria Walsh, who says a new Veterinary Medicine School was approved by Government in June.
But she argues progress has been incredibly and unacceptably slow. 
The programme would be delivered through the ATU Mountbellew and Letterkenny campuses. 
MEP Walsh says these places are badly needed, because at the moment the vast majority of Irish vets have to train abroad.

A new dedicated menopause clinic has opened in Galway city.
Misneach Menopause at the Galway Clinic in Doughiska is led by Galway-based GP Dr Marina Curran, who is the clinical lead for UHG's Complex Menopause Clinic
Dr Curran says while there are other facilities for women to go for menopause care, hers is one of the only dedicated clinics in the city.

A new colouring book for Irish and Ukranian children has been launched at Muighinis National School near Carna this afternoon. 
'Spraoi' is a collaboration between Tuismitheoirí na Gaeltachta and Galway Rural Development. 
It aims to help Ukrainian pupils in the Gaeltacht to learn the Irish language versions of common phrases they would be familiar with. 
Translation into Ukrainian was provided by Nadia Dobrianska, a native of Ukraine who is fluent in Irish. 
Our reporter Mairtin O Cathain spoke to principal of Muighinis National School, Roisin Ní Chualain, who's very happy with the book.

The contract has been signed between Galway County Council and Finna Construction Ltd, for an 8 house development at  in Ballymoe, which is expected to be ready in Autumn 2024 
The development at Durrow and Ballaghymurry consists of 2 single storey two-bed houses, 6 two-storey two-bed houses and all ancillary site development works, including road enhancement works along the R360 Regional Road
The value of the project is in excess of €1.6m and is funded under the Government’s ‘Housing for All’ Plan to 2030.’ 
Cllr Declan Geraghty told me this development will bring a welcome boost to the local economy and he has praised the county council for focusing on smaller towns for such projects

RPS, the tender company for the Athlone to Galway Greenway, has stepped away from the project
RPS has advised the lead authority, Westmeath County Council, that the project is no longer financially viable for the company.
In a statement it says the decision is due to the complexity and scale of the route, and the upward market pressures in recent years.
It also outlines plans by Westmeath County Council and RPS to minimise delays to the project.
Galway County Council has made an assurance that public and landowner engagement will continue while it seeks a new consultant.
Speaking to Galway Talks, greenway action group campaigner, Tricha Donohue, says this is an opportunity to review the project
