A study, led by University of Galway, has found that domestic firelighters are driving air pollution.
The international research team from Ireland, Canada and India, has uncovered negative health and climate change impacts of using firelighters.
The study has found that domestic firelighters used for open fires and stoves in the home emit more black carbon than all biomass fuels put together.

A number of cinemas in Galway are joining in on an all-day €4 ticket deal this Saturday.
The deal is part of a promotion to mark National Cinema Day.
According to cinemaday.ie, the city's Pálás, the Eye Cinema, and the IMC on Headford road are participating in the deal, along with the Salthill and Oranmore Omniplex cinemas.
Mark Anderson of Omniplex Cinemas says it's not too well known that more people go to the cinema in Ireland, pro-rata, than any other country in Europe.

The latest IBAL litter survey has revealed Dog's Bay beach in Roundstone has slipped to 'littered'
Meanwhile an improvement was seen at Loughrea lake, with both it and Salthill rated as 'Clean to European Norms'
Dog''s Bay beach was found to be littered with marine-related items, along with the likes of coffee cups, cigarette butts and plastic bottles.
Nationally, the survey states there's been 50 per cent rise in clean sites overall, but coastal areas are more littered than towns.
IBAL spokesperson Conor Horgan says there are NO litter blackspots this time:

New speed limits in the city centre - including 30km/h zones - are to be introduced from tomorrow morning.
Under the plans, the inner city centre will be a blanket 30km/h zone.
Roads affected include College Road, Bohermore, Eyre Square, Merchants Roads, Munster Avenue, Sea Road, University Road and a section of Headford Road. There are also speed limits increases on certain roads - including sections of Bothar na dTreabh, the Tuam Road, and Quinncentennial Bridge.
Councillor Ciarán Cannon says the new changes are a positive development for the city of Galway:
