Galway City rents are up by 12 percent over the past year - with the average now standing at €1,867 a month. 
Analysis by Daft.ie shows Galway city is the third-most expensive area for renting, behind Dublin and Wicklow.
Meanwhile rents across county Galway rose by more than 20 percent over the past 12 months, with the average now €1,438. 
Leitrim is by far the cheapest county with an average rent of just over €1 thousand - while South County Dublin is the highest at €2,600. 
Nationally, the average rent is now €1,792 and report author Ronan Lyons says a lack of supply is continuing to impact pricing

There is a call for the immediate return of a two-lane junction at Roscam at peak times.
The junction on the Doughiska Road is the main entrance point to four estates in the Roscam area of the city.
City councillors recently agreed on plans to bring back a second lane following demands from local residents.
Local councillor Alan Cheevers, is calling on the Galway City Council Transport Department to start the works before children go back to school

The National Transport Authority has promised to improve bus services in South Connemara over the coming months.
The NTA is seeking to increase the frequency of the 424 route to An Cheathrú Rua and Leitir Mealláin.
Local TD Eamon Ó Cuív has been told the services will be improved by October, with the NTA currently in discussions with Bus Éireann.

COPE Galway says while full paid domestic violence leave set to be introduced this autumn is welcome, it should be extended to ten days. 
The new form of leave was introduced as part of the Work Life Balance Act, passed earlier this year, and will provide five days of full paid leave. 
Gillian McNamee, head of domestic abuse services at COPE Galway, told Galway Talks it should be doubled.

Labour City Councillor Niall McNelis has called on Galway City Council tourism and economic development departments for an urgent update on where planning is for a proposed business that was successful in its bid to use the Derelict Tourist Office in Salthill.
The building ceased operating as a tourist office in 2012 and has proved difficult to get up and running again.
It was also recently vandalised by graffiti on its roof which has been removed following calls by local councillors.
Councillor McNelis says that a solution must be found for the building.

Galway Bay FM's own Ollie Turner has been named as one of the judges for the 2023 Rose of Tralee that will be held from the 18th to the 23rd of August.
Well known on the Rose Circuit, Ollie has Mc'd the Galway Rose for the past few years along with other Rose selections throughout the country.
He was also one of the judges for the International Rose selection in 2018.
Ollie and fellow judges Nuala Carey of RTE and Nicola Dunne who won the Rose of Tralee in 2012.
