There's a call for Galway County Council to show a "stronger hand" against illegal dumpers. 
Councillor Tim Broderick says something has to be done to get a handle on the scourge that's affecting rural areas. 
A meeting of Ballinasloe councillors this week heard a story of a man who had to pay out of his own pocket after a huge amount of rubbish was dumped on his land. 
There was also focus on the fact that CCTV still cannot be used for prosecution due to GDPR.
Councillor Tim Broderick says some sort of fresh approach is needed.

Galway City Council has launched an online community clean-up resource.
This resource makes it easy for community groups to request bags, gloves and litter pickers for clean-ups in their area.
Groups can also request the removal of litter bags every Wednesday by Council staff through this portal.

Galway County Council is to appoint a senior community warden regarding the ongoing issue of the abuse of disabled parking spaces in towns across the county.
This followed a notion of motion by Tuam Area County Councillor Andrew Reddington for the appointment of a liaison officer to work with the Galway disability forum and disabled drivers association in relation to any issues they may have regarding parking, illegal parking and misuse of disabled parking permits.
Councillor Reddington told Galway Bay FM, that this came following a meeting with the Galway Disability Forum and the Disabled Drivers Association at a recent meeting of the Joint Policing Committee.

There are over 7,000 adults and children engaging in disability services in the West.
Of that, over 2,300 children in Galway alone were registered to be using HSE disability-funded services in 2022.
45,000 of those registered on the National Ability Supports System are children, with 70 percent of them male.
The most frequently reported primary disability type for children was autism, while for adults it was an intellectual disability.
Dr Claire Casey, Research Officer at the Health Research Board says the data is important for regional planning
