Scoil An Phiarsaigh in Ros Muc has been officially opened today by Galway County Council Leas-Cathaoirleach Ollie Turner 
The two-day event will be made up of music, entertainment, storytelling, and history presentations on the connections between the area and Easter Rising 1916 leader Padraig Pearse, after whom the event is named.
Tomorrow will feature talks regarding Enterprise and the support measures available on starting a business in the Connemara Gaeltacht

There have been over 1,300 cases of sepsis at the Emergency Department at UHG over the past two years. 
According to figures presented at the HSE Health Forum West this week, 317 of those later died. 
However, an advisory was given that those deaths were not necessarily as a result of sepsis, as many patients would have other underlying conditions. 
Forum member, Fianna Fail Councillor Donagh Killilea, says it shows the need for increased public awareness. 

Galway Cathedral has unveiled a gift of a replica of the iconic painting ‘Our Lady, Consoler of the Afflicted’ by Bishop András Veres of Gyor. for a limited period
Galway and Gyor share a connection dating back 350 years which is strongly tied to this painting.
The replica and accompanying exhibition will be on display in the Cathedral for a number of weeks. 
Volunteer Helena O’Shea says it’s great to have the painting back in Galway with its strong local connection.

Preparations are underway in Ballinasloe for the arrival of a French twinning delegation.
Representatives from Chalonnes-sur-Loire in Western France will arrive tomorrow, coinciding with the start of the historic Ballinasloe Horse Fair.
The delegation will be hosted by local families and are set to attend the Three Fair Dinner on Saturday evening.
The connection between both towns officially dates back to 1988 and independent councillor Evelyn Parsons says there is lot to learn from their French counterparts.

A meeting at County Hall this week heard there's still no affordable housing on the horizon for most towns in County Galway. 
Over the past ten years, Galway County Council hasn't built any affordable housing - but plans are underway for developments in Claregalway and Athenry. 
However, there's nothing planned yet for towns like Ballinasloe, Gort, Loughrea or Tuam. 
The local authority this month launched an online survey to gauge the level of interest and preferred locations for affordable housing. 
Sinn Fein Athenry/Oranmore Councillor Louis O' Hara says it's unnacceptable there's been no affordable housing built since 2013.
