The new Cathaloireach of Galway County Council has called for the urgent adoption of an Artificial Intelligence strategy and intergration plan across all local authorities in Ireland.
Fianna Fail Councillor for the Athenry/Oranmore area Albert Dolan has made the proposal which focuses on an ethical use of AI to enhance public services and boost innovation at a local government level.
He's made the call for his proposal to be used nationally if successful to ensure Galway and the country as a whole can leverage the full potential of this emerging technology.

A Galway/Roscommon TD has called on the Taoiseach to priortise increasing Garda resources for rural areas and towns.
Sinn Fein TD Claire Kerrane raised the issue to Simon Harris in the Daíl to raise the issue with Justice Minister Helen McEntee.
She stated these resources needed to particularly focus on areas without Garda stations -or without stations operating on a full-time basis.
Deputy Kerrane says this was also needed in light of a rise in robbery statistics and stated it was a 'real issue' across her constituency:

Galway City Councillor, Fine Gael's Eddie Hoare, has confirmed that a tender for the appointment of an Architect Led Multidisciplinary design team for the Lombard Street Rejuvenation project has now been prepared.
The plans will see an extension of the Saturday market into Mainguard Street and a more pedestrian-friendly environment for all road users.
Speaking yesterday evening, Councillor Hoare said that it is a welcome and positive development.

Galway East TD Ciaran is urging Taoiseach Simon Harris to act "swiftly and decisively" on the reform of the Road Safety Authority.
Speaking in the Dáil, he said given the increased deaths on the roads this year, urgent action is needed to avoid further loss of life.
Fine Gael Deputy Cannon believes there is one solution that must be looked at immediately.

Minister for Disability and Fianna Fáil TD for Galway East, Anne Rabbitte, has said she's disappointed to learn of the company's cancellation of a proposed public engagement behind the Portumna power plant.
Following a number of public meetings held in the community over proposed developments at the Oldstreet Power Station in the Coolpowra area of Gortanumera, it was confirmed to Minister Rabbitte that an event for the public to meet the company and discuss the project would take place with the meeting being held on Monday next.
However, the Minister was informed last night that the event was cancelled.
Speaking to Galway Bay FM News this morning, Minister Rabbitte said that a project of this scale needs engagement.

Roscommon/Galway TD Denis Naughten says energy poverty is an urgent concern in Ireland that is negatively impacting on people's health.
The Independent TD is Cathaoirleach for the Joint Committee on Social Protection, Community and Rural Development.
A household is considered to be in energy poverty if it is spending more than ten percent of its income on heating and electricity.
It's estimated around one third of Irish households are in energy poverty, and the committee is calling for specific actions to be taken to address this.
Deputy Naughten spoke to Sarah Slevin about the impacts of energy poverty, and the recommendations the committee have:
