An initiative which sees vital information on cervical and breast cancer translated into Ukrainian has been launched in Galway.
Galway City Partnership and the Marie Keating Foundation have teamed up to translate leaflets into Ukrainian, making health information more accessible.
The aim is to break down language barriers, and to provide clarity on the services available in Galway.

There are calls for additional zebra crossings to be installed along the promenade in Salthill.
City West Councillor Clodagh Higgins says Salthill is a key location for pedestrians, and the road safety infrastructure needs to reflect that.
The Fine Gael Councillor says residents in the Rockbarton area in particular have long been advocating for more crossings.

A deal has been reached between the HSE and Galway County Council for the sale of the Grove House Site in Gort.
Fianna Fáil Gord-Kinvara area Councillor Gerry Finnerty has confirmed the HSE's intention to accept an offer from the council.
The building was previously used for mental health services, but was sold to the HSE and has since fallen into disrepair due to a lack of use.
Speaking to John Morley on Galway Talks, Councillor Finnerty says it's positive the building will be used for housing:

The roundabouts on the Moycullen bypass are being changed - because drivers aren't using them properly. 
A meeting at County Hall heard that since the opening in December, there's been a lot of confusion with the two approach lanes. 
It was confirmed that works are now taking place to reduce the approaches to a single lane. 
Councillor Noel Thomas told David Nevin the lanes aren't being used correctly and there's been a lot of near misses.

County Cathaoirleach and Oranmore councillor Liam Carroll has announced he is retiring from local politics. 
He had declared his intention to run as an independent in the upcoming elections and was canvassing up to last week. 
But the former Fine Gael politician - who left the party after they failed to select him as a candidate - has since decided to step down. 
This was his second term as councillor -  having first gained a seat in 2009, losing it in 2014, and being part of just 5 percent of councillors who reclaimed a lost seat in 2019. 
Councillor Carroll explained to David Nevin why he decided to step back.

ATU is to host a conference about Digital Innovation in Sport at its Galway Dublin Road campus this Thursday 
Galway native International soccer player Niamh Fahey from Killanin and Sligo native international basketball player and coach Michael Bree will lead the panel.
The conference, which has a fee to attend,  is being held in association with Data 2 Sustain, Sports Tech Ireland and Sport Ireland

Galway County Council has honoured Galway Bay fm's Keith Finnegan with a civic reception for his 34 years of distinguished service to the radio industry
Hosted by County Cathaoirleach Liam Carroll, it was held in the Oranmore Lodge Hotel this afternoon as part of the monthly council meeting
Keith will be honoured by the City Council on Friday week with the Freedom of the city, at a ceremony in the Hardiman Hotel in Eyre Square
The 63 year-old Mervue native retired from the station last month, but will be back on air over the next fortnight to moderate the local and European election debates, being broadcast each evening from 6 to 8
The first one, featuring the Connemara North candidates goes out this evening 
Just after the civic reception and ahead of this evening's 6 o'clock broadcast Keith told David Nevin that he found today's Reception and all the good wishes since his retirement, humbling

There's frustration over the continued lack of public transport in Claregalway - despite the rapid growth of the village. 
The matter was raised at County Hall this week by Athenry/Oranmore Councillor David Collins. 
He was also critical of long-running plans for Park and Ride facilities around Knockdoe and Carnmore - which seem to have made no progress. 
Councillor Collins told David Nevin local residents are very frustrated.

There's a call for community CCTV grants to be 'fast-tracked' to urgently tackle anti-social behavior and illegal dumping across Galway. 
Government has announced €1m for the development of council led CCTV schemes in specific communities. 
Applications are now open - and Councillor Shelly Herterich Quinn says they need to be submitted and approved as quickly as possible. 
The Athenry/Oranmore councillor says the grant could also cover the upgrade of out-of-date existing systems.
