 A huge buzz filled the Dean Hotel in the city today for the official launch of the 2024 Galway International Arts Festival.
 The festival will run from July 15th to 28th this year, and tickets for events go on sale tomorrow at 10AM.
It hosts a packed programme of theatre, circus, music, visual art, street art, comedy, and spectacle, including seven world premieres.
 This year's festival sees the return of the Festival Garden along with the Big Top featuring acts such as Saw Doctors, Annie Mac, Gavin James and Jess Glynne.
 While Druid, Enda Walsh and Samuel Beckett are some of the big names involved in the theatre offering.
Artistic Director Paul Fahy says there really is something for everyone in what he considers is one of the most ambitious programmes yet.

It's being claimed that Galway is lagging behind when it comes to charging infrastructure for Electric Vehicles.
City West Councillor Clodagh Higgins is calling for a substantial investment in such facilities, saying it's a critical step in achieving decarbonisation goals.
The Fine Gael Councillor says while demand for new EVs is surging, a lack of infrastructure is a deterrant for those hesitant to make the switch.
Councillor Higgins is urging the city council to prioritise investment in EV charging infrastructure going forward:

Galway City Council is being urged to tackle a serious litter problem in Doughiska. 
Fianna Fáil Councillor Alan Cheevers says the litter problem is creating a serious issue with rats on the main road.
He says a lack of bins is partially to blame and it must be addressed by Galway City Council. 
Councillor Cheevers says bins in public spaces are really important.

A public meeting is taking place in Kilrickle this evening, to mark the official "turning on of the tap" on the long awaited water scheme for the village. 
Campaigners have been fighting for over 30 years to secure a mains water supply. 
Until now, local homes, businesses and a national school were forced to rely on wells or rainwater tanks.
The open meeting to mark the official completion of the scheme takes place this evening at Kilrickle Community Centre at 7pm.

There's immense frustration in Spiddal over a lack of control on the parking of camper vans in Spiddal. 
That was the messsage delivered by Councillor Daithi O' Cualain at a meeting at County Hall this week. 
He said at times they're taking over spaces at local amenities - and often blocking access for local people. 
Councillor O' Cualain told David Nevin that tourists are very welcome - but more control on camper vans is urgently needed.

Almost 14 million euro has been announced for Athenry, Glenamaddy and Tuam by Rural Development Minister Heather Humphreys.
In Athenry, six million is being invested in revitalising the town centre and turning an existing vacant building into a state of the art community and enterprise hub. 
Four million will go toward a new multi-use community and enterprise facility in Glenamaddy. 
Meanwhile in Tuam over 3.5 million will allow for the complete transformation of the historic Tuam Town Hall into a community, enterprise and arts facility”

A Corrandulla based food business has been selected for a €20,000 advertising package.
Green Earth Organics has been selected by FBD Insurance to participate in an advertising package worth €140,000 for seven Irish SMEs nationwide.
The selected businesses will be featured on Ireland's largest Out of Home billboard in Dublin City Centre, enhancing exposure and reaching new audiences.
