Delays to the city flood relief scheme could push the completion date out to 2030, according to information obtained by Galway West TD Catherine Connolly
In addition the number of properties to be protected has been increased, leading to an updated estimate of €50 million, which is over 5 times the original cost
The Coirib go Cósta scheme is now designed to protect 940 properties, rather than 312 as previously envisaged
The original planned completion date of 2027 could be up to three years delayed, which will result in the city remaining vulnerable to flooding for an extended period.
Independent Deputy Connolly is unhappy with the lack of engagement by the government with the affected area.

A call has been made for Galway County Council to install permanent traffic control close to St.Annin's National school and the adjoining creche in Rosscahill.
The issue's been raised by Independent candidate for Connemara North LEA Councillor Thomas Welby following feedback from residents in recent weeks.
Rosscahill is designated a settlement in the current County Development Plan, but a national secondary road dissects the services and a majority of nearby houses.
Local residents are also encouraged to engage in submissions to Government under the Road Traffic Bill 2024.
Councillor Welby says the current setup with the speed limits is causing problems:

On this May Day, Galway is kickstarting events to celebrate the country's first-ever Trade Union Week.
Events are running until next Monday, May 6th, as part of ICTU's 'Better in a Trade Union' campaign - which is aiming to promote the benefits of being a trade union member.
Members and representatives of 44 trade unions affiliated to ICTU are holding events this week in schools, workplaces and retail outlets across the city.
Assistant General Secretary with the Galway Branch of the Forsa Trade Union Michael Kerrigan outlines the highlights of the week:
