Up to 100 new local tour guides will take to the streets of Galway city this summer through a new initiative.
The Galway Street Ambassadors programme is recruiting volunteers to provide a friendly face to tourists visiting the city.
The pilot initiative has been developed by Galway Volunteer Centre in partnership with Galway Culture Company.

The road from Corner Chapel to Donaghpatrick cemetery in Headford needs to be examined by engineers from a health and safety point of view
That's according to Fianna Fáil Councillor Mary Hoade who has stressed the urgency of the matter to county council officials 
Councillor Hoade says money has become available so this work should be prioritised for the area where motorists approach the bend at Ballycolgan Lower

A proposal has been floated for a new free parking scheme in Ballinasloe to boost local businesses. 
At present, the county council only offers free parking in county towns over the Christmas period. 
Councillor Tim Broderick has suggested that instead, vouchers should be given to businesses to hand out to their customers. 
At a meeting of local councillors this week, a council executive said the plan could be looked at in the next budget. 
Councillor Broderick says the model he's proposed could be rolled out to any county town.

A public event aimed at advocating for women and diversity in politics will take place next week (17th April). 
Helen Ogbu, a community activist and Labour Party Candidate for Galway City East, is inviting people to a symposium titled "SHEroes"
It aims to address the under-representation of women, lack of diversity, and absence of people from migrant backgrounds in decision-making roles.
The free event takes place at the Menlo Park Hotel next Wednesday, but pre-booking is required. 
Helen Ogbu says Galway's diversity needs to be represented in local politics.

Funding for a new 14-classroom school has been confirmed for Rosedale special school in Renmore.
Rosedale provides an educational service for students aged 6 to 18 years with severe and profound learning disabilities.
Senator Pauline O'Reilly says the project should progress quickly because it's expected it will be built on the existing Rosedale site.
Speaking to Galway Talks, Senator O'Reilly, says it will be great to see the infrastructure match up to the great work being done there:
