It was maybe too much to hope for, that Leo Varadkar might "change his script" on the Mother and Baby Home Redress Scheme after announcing his resignation.
That's according to Galway West TD Catherine Connolly, who's again raised her opposition to a core criteria of the scheme, which is now open.
In order to be eligible for compensation, a person must have been resident in a home for more than six months.
But Deputy Connolly says experts have pointed out that's unfair and discriminatory.

A student from Spiddal has delivered a speech As Gaeilge at an EU contest, which has crowned him Ireland's best young translator
Fionnán Ó Coisdealbha's win marks the second year in a row that Coláiste Chroí Mhuire has taken home the top Irish prize of ‘Juvenes Translatores’.
Fionnán spoke at the ceremony in Brussels, referring to his home in the West of Ireland, and his love of Gaeilge:

UN Special Rapporteur on Palestine, Francesca Albanese, is in the city today to visit University of Galway.
She'll give the Annual Distinguished Lecture at the Irish Centre for Human Rights later this evening.
Speaking to media this afternoon, she acknowledged the support of the Irish people for Palestine - but said our Government could be doing more.
She said the horrifying reality on the ground is Gaza - the death, suffering, and lack of access to basic essentials - is beyond description.
Francesca Albanese also expressed a fear to David Nevin that the situation in Gaza will get much more before it gets any better.

Students at the University of Galway are using artwork to highlight their neurodiversity experiences for Brain Awareness Week.
The 'Draw Thought' exhibition in the Quadrangle, which also features postcards sent by people in Ireland and abroad, is open from 12-6pm until Monday (March 25th)
Members of the Neurodivergence Society collaborated with Spiddal artist Catherine Fleming on a painting, which is being displayed at the University Gallery.
Jane Conway, Director of Scientific Arts Lab with the School of Psychology, says Catherine took inspiration from the students' experiences.

A special poetry book, containing poems from five local Gaelscoileanna, has been unveiled today in Moycullen.
177 pupils from Scoil Bhaile Nua, Gaelscoil Mhic Amhlaigh, Scoil Shéamais Naofa, Scoil Náisiúnta Naomh Breandán, and Scoil Bhríde Mionloch have contributed poetry to the published book.

Family Resource Centres in Galway are calling for long-term funding for therapeutic services.
It comes as the Forum for the centres has published a report looking at the impact of its services in Galway and across the country.
It shows that one-off funding of €1m supported over 8,000 adults and children through therapy and workshops in the aftermath of COVID-19.
Fergal Landy, the CEO National Forum of Family Resource Centres, says long term funding could increase the support these centres can provide:

177 pupils from Scoil Bhaile Nua, Gaelscoil Mhic Amhlaigh, Scoil Shéamais Naofa, Scoil Náisiúnta Naomh Breandán, and Scoil Bhríde Mionloch have contributed poetry to the published book.
Féile Filíochta, which is also colouring book, will be available online to purchase within the next week.

Galway Traveller Movement has launched a new anti-racism toolkit. 
The kit outlines Travellers legal rights under the law, and how they can respond to the racism and discrimination they experience. 
GTM says research shows that 70 percent of Travellers experience discrimination on a daily basis. 
Speaking to Galway Talks, Nora Corcoran said it's about empowering people to stand up for their rights.
